Chris Pavey | Mastering Engineer

I mastered my first record in 2012, and since then I have been able to work with a truly amazing roster of artists and musicians, mastered a wide range of music, and have been able to create some great lasting friendships across the globe.

Tucked away in the heart of Suffolk just outside Bury St Edmunds, is where you’ll find my studio. Of which I am proud to say was designed and built by myself. My goal was to create the perfect studio surroundings for my work, with lots of natural light and comfortable surroundings, twined with dialled in acoustics that mean I hear every detail of the music I’m working with.

Who do I work with? Pop, Rock, R&B, Jazz, Orchestral, Film scores… the list goes on, and I’ve worked on it all and found no genre that isn’t brilliantly rewarding to work with. Just serving the artist is my number one priority, and it goes without saying, no master leaves this studio unless it’s 100% perfect for you the client.

My thoughts on mastering…

Having been involved in the many different parts of the creative process, I can always empathise with an artist about what a total emotional and physical undertaking it can be to create and release music. So I believe mastering requires open communication, and a complete two way dialogue with the artist from the start, with no friction introduced to the project at all. In my opinion there is no other way to master a record successfully.

A lot is written online about mastering, some true, some false, some fact, some opinion. But if you ask me, there is no secret to mastering, just serve the music and it will sound incredible.
